Why choose Strathmore?
Thinking about building in Strathmore? Strathmore is a Strathmore Secondary College catchment first and a suburb second. The school zone shapes who buys, what they pay, and how long they intend to stay. Owner-occupier rate sits above 80 percent, which tells you most people who buy here are building for the next twenty years. The Tullamarine Freeway divides the suburb north-south, and Napier Park's River Red Gum stand anchors the older streets.
At Jackson Dwellings, our Strathmore work is family homes built for the long run. Cam personally involved on every project, one supervisor on site from start to finish, and a process designed for the level of input people who plan to stay actually want. We're about thirty-five minutes north in Gisborne, on site weekly.

About building in Strathmore.
Strathmore blocks reward design that's planned for the long haul. Generous lots in the older parts of the suburb open up real options for orientation and layout, and the leafy streetscape carries weight in council neighbourhood character assessments. Established trees on many titles influence what's possible without making sacrifices early in design. The Tullamarine Freeway noise corridor is real on streets close to the alignment and worth designing for at concept stage rather than retrofitting acoustically later. Knockdown-rebuilds of original mid-century stock are the most common project profile across the suburb, alongside well-considered second-storey additions where the existing bones are sound. The split between Strathmore proper and Strathmore Heights to the north matters for some planning decisions, and the difference in flight-path exposure to Essendon Airport varies meaningfully across the suburb. Cam works on the design brief himself, with the supervisor brought in early so the build sequence informs the design. The result is a family home that holds up to twenty years of use. If you're planning a long-term home in Strathmore, we'd love to help you do it properly.

Frequently asked.
Will the council support a two-storey home on our block?
Usually, but the answer depends on the block’s frontage, the streetscape pattern, and any neighbourhood character provisions specific to your street. We can walk through what’s likely to be supported on your specific block before plans get committed to.
How does the Tullamarine Freeway noise affect house design?
For blocks within around 400 metres of the freeway it’s worth designing for. Acoustic glazing, bedroom and living-zone placement, courtyard orientation away from the noise source, and material choices all factor in. Best handled at concept stage, not retrofitted.
Are the Strathmore Secondary catchment rules likely to change?
The catchment has been disputed in the past (a 2014 community campaign reversed a Department rezoning attempt). It’s worth checking the current zone map on the school’s website if catchment status matters to your purchase. We’re not in a position to advise on it but we know it matters to a lot of Strathmore buyers.
What's the budget range for a Strathmore family home?
Our builds start from $750,000. The estimator on this site gives you an indicative range in about a minute. Tree protection, retaining on sloping blocks, and any acoustic design for freeway-adjacent sites sit on top of the base build cost.
