Cam and Emma Jackson, founders of Jackson Dwellings

Hands-on. By design.

Cam and Emma started Jackson Dwellings in 2010. Today we build a select number of considered custom homes each year, within an hour of the Macedon Ranges. Here's how it came together, and who's behind it.

It started in 2005.

Cam started in carpentry at sixteen. By 2010 he was running his own business across the Macedon Ranges, working to a simple principle: the work should hold up at twenty years, not just at handover.

Emma joined the business in 2015 from an unlikely background. Several years in the Victoria Police, then teaching. She brought structure, accountability, and a level of operational rigour not always found in the trade.

Together they've built Jackson Dwellings into a custom home builder taking on a deliberately capped number of projects each year, almost all within an hour of Gisborne. Cam runs the build. Emma runs the business. Behind them is a tight team. A project manager, a building manager, and trades they've worked with for years. All building to the same standard. Their three sons are growing up around the same trades and the same standards their parents have spent two decades refining.

Jackson Dwellings story

We live here too.

We live in the Macedon Ranges with our three sons. A greenhouse, a pool, and the chickens our boys feed each morning. About 45 minutes from Melbourne, depending on traffic.

This isn't incidental to how we work. The homes we build are the kind we'd choose to live in ourselves. We understand the soil, the slope, the way light moves across the hills through the seasons, and where the prevailing wind comes from. We know which trades show up consistently, and which ones don't.

When Cam walks a block with you, he's drawing on twenty years of building within an hour of Gisborne. There's no shortcut to that kind of local understanding.

How we work

Under one roof.

Designer, estimator, and interior designer in the same office. Same systems. Same conversations.

The traditional way means going to a builder, then to a network of consultants, and managing the coordination yourself. We do it differently. Decisions happen in person, not in email chains.

Watch
01

Cohesive design

The interior designer thinks about feel and finish while the floor plan's still being drawn. Designs work together.

02

Accurate budgets

The estimator sees every design call in real time. No quiet creep between concept and contract.

03

Faster timelines

Changes happen across the desk, not in week-long email threads with external consultants.

04

Real accountability

One team across the whole build. No three professionals pointing fingers when something needs sorting.

Our principles

What we believe.

We build for the tradesperson's eye in twenty years, not the camera lens on handover day.

The way a frame is built, the way services are run, the way a wall meets a window. None of it shows up in a real estate photo. Quality is invisible if you don't know what to look for. So we make it visible.

A custom home is shaped by everyone who works on it.

Use the same painters, sparkies, plumbers, and joiners year after year and the work gets quietly better. Most of our trades have been with us for over a decade. They know how we like things done. We know what they're capable of.

We say no more than we say yes.

A capped number of builds each year. A pace that lets us think about each one, return calls the same day, and walk every site every week. We sleep better for it.

The builder runs the build.

Day-to-day, your project manager and building manager keep things moving. Cam sets the standard, reviews every stage, and signs off on the work himself.
